PRP Therapy is On the Rise

PRP Therapy has been making waves in the beauty industry thanks to its popularity with celebrities and athletes. Its benefits can be seen in the faces of beauties like supermodel Bar Refaeli and in the bodies of athletes like Alex Rodriguez. But you don’t have to fly to Hollywood for a PRP Therapy session. This facial rejuvenation procedure isn’t just for the rich and famous. Uptown Medical Wellness & Anti-Aging Center offers it right here in the Rio Grande Valley.

Find out more about which facial rejuvenation procedures Uptown Medical Wellness & Anti-Aging Center offers.

How Does it Work?

Platelet-rich Plasma Therapy is a procedure where blood is extracted from a patient, processed in a centrifuge to separate plasma and is then injected into the face to spark natural healing. Athletes like Tiger Woods and Kobe Bryant first used it to treat sports-related injuries, but doctors also found that the process is successful in treating facial scarring, wrinkles, hyper pigmentation and also aids in the production of collagen.

Celebrities Know it Works

Supermodel Bar Refaeli shared a photo of herself undergoing PRP Therapy on Instagram and it has been widely rumored that actress Angelina Jolie has undergone PRP as well. But the most prominent advocate of the PRP procedure is reality star Kim Kardashian. On an episode of Kim and Kourtney Take Miami, Kardashian took cameras along to capture footage of her PRP facial. She later posted an Instagram photo to her 62 million followers, sparking even more interest.

Should You Try It?

If you’re looking for a quick and non-invasive procedure, PRP therapy takes about 20 minutes and patients can see improvements for up to 18 months. Dr. Alan Matarasso, a Clinical Professor of Plastic Surgery at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, said that since the procedure uses the patient’s own blood, there is no risk for rejection, infection or an allergic reaction.

It’s good to know that PRP therapy only takes up to about 20 minutes. My wife would like to get some cosmetic procedures taken care of before her sister’s wedding, but she doesn’t have a lot of time to get everything done. She’ll be happy to know that PRP therapy will let you see improvements for up to 18 months and won’t take very long to get done.
