Summer is almost here, but don’t dread the day you’ll bust out your bikini. Okay, so you haven’t even started a workout routine and can’t seem to put down the donuts in the break room. It’s never too late to get started! You still have a couple of months to make it work. Uptown Medical Wellness and Anti-Aging Center has a few tips to help you start your bikini body journey.
Load Up in the Mornings
You’ve probably heard it a million times, but it’s the truth: people who eat breakfast are fitter. Have a good breakfast, have a great lunch but don’t go overboard at dinner. Try to get most of your foods in before 3 PM. Research has shown that people who eat a larger breakfast or lunch shed more pounds than people who eat big dinners.
Pack a Lunch
Your lunchbreak is one you’ll want to spend outside of the office, but eating out has you putting on the pounds and you’re starting to see it in the mirror. While restaurant lunches are super tempting, it’s best to pack a lunch. Research shows that women who eat out once a week lose less weight than women who bring lunch to work. It’s also less stressful on your wallet.
Choose the Right Tunes to Workout
Whether you use Spotify, Google Play or Pandora, chances are you know the kind of music that gets you going. Create a playlist with your favorite energetic tunes and boost your cardio routine with some beats. Make sure to choose something fast to pick up that jogging pace.
Pick the Right Poison
It’s Saturday night and you’ve been invited out for drinks. Don’t’ cancel your plans! Instead of margaritas and piña coladas, which contain tons of sugar, opt for a vodka soda with lime. Explore the world of low-calorie flavored vodkas.
Dance yourself silly. Put on your favorite tunes while cleaning or do daily chores and dance. Make washing dishes and laundry fun and put on a club thumper.
Get Enough Sleep
You find yourself groggy each morning and even hungry for that extra slice of pizza for lunch. People who don’t get enough sleep crave carbs like crazy according to Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Jersey. The more tired you feel, the stronger those cravings are.
Establish a Routine
Put together a workout schedule and keep tabs of your progress. Measure how many pushups and sit-ups you can do and how long you do them for. See how far you can jog without stopping. Check back with yourself in a month’s time to see where you are. Results will be seen if you keep at it and will also motivate you when you discover your accomplishments.
Yoga in the Morning
Work yoga into your morning routine. It doesn’t have to be a full yoga session. Spend a few minutes doing a pose in the shower or as you fold your bed. Stretch that body as you reach for cereal from the top shelf of your cupboard. Yoga will get your blood flowing and you’ll feel more energetic throughout the day.
Don’t go straight to happy hour on a Friday afternoon. It may be difficult to turn down, but it’s best to start healthy fitness habits even on your downtime. Join a fun dance class or fitness club and spend your Friday evenings working up a sweat in a fun way. If you’re a big Sunday brunch person, try working out before brunch, that way you’ve burned calories and won’t feel guilty about having that mimosa.
