4 Things You Can Do to Prepare for Warmer Seasons

[:en]Here in South Texas, we’re quite used to saying goodbye to winter as soon as it arrives. Winters here are almost non-existent. While the skin care overhaul from season to season in our region is minimal during this period of the year, along with switching to a lighter makeup routine, nail colors and hair, it’s easy to neglect our skin. Follow the tips below to transition your skin successfully into the new season!

At Uptown Medical Wellness & Anti-Aging Center, our goal is to keep you looking younger and healthier! Visit us to ask how our treatments can help you feel better in 2017!

Moisturize to Look Great!

After cold weather dries out skin, we need something to help replenish the moisture that was lost. What should you look for when shopping for a moisturizer? We recommend looking for products that do double duty as moisturizers and skin protectants. Keep an eye out for ingredients like sunflower oil and Vitamin E, both of which work as emollients that trap moisture within skin cells for hydration. Alpha and beta hydroxyl can also help replenish dry skin.

Lifeline Skin Care products also keep skin looking fresh with ingredients that activate new collagen and elastin production. Last, but not least, glycolic acid is a moisturizer that works to remove dead skin cells and leaves your skin looking and feeling new.

To Cleanse or Exfoliate?

When walking down the aisle of our favorite beauty store, we always feel the need to give up one product for another. Many confuse exfoliating and cleansing as having the same effect, which is far from the truth. Exfoliating helps remove dry, rough layers left over from harsh seasons like winter. When looking for scrubs, avoid apricot pits and walnut shells, which are tougher and can tear and irritate your skin. Instead, look for ingredients like beta hydroxyl acids and brown sugar.

Cleansing should ideally happen twice a day (morning and night). Use a mild cleanser so your skin doesn’t become irritated. If your skin is already showing signs of aging, consider a quick treatment with no downtime, like our laser skin care renewal service, which helps remove undesirable skin imperfections like brown spots and wrinkles.

SPF, SPF and more SPF!

Since weather will become warmer in a few months, we’re likely going to spend more time outdoors, which means we’ll need sunscreen. Always keep in mind that what works for your body might not work for your face. Sometimes, SPF formulas meant for the body can cause the face to break out with skin issues. Keep an eye out for non-chemical sunscreens with zinc oxide and titanium dioxide since these are not as harsh as other chemicals.

Clean Out the Beauty Closet

The most important step when transitioning into new weather is cleaning out beauty products you won’t use anymore. Throw away anything over six months old since these products can host a buildup of bacteria that could lead to dull skin and clogged pores. Makeup brushes are always overlooked as well, so toss them out. We recommend washing your brushes once a week with regular hand soap and drying them with a blow dryer.
