A Closer Look at the HCG Diet

While doing research, it can become even more daunting since you won’t know where to start when choosing one. The HCG Diet is Born

The diet was created almost by accident by Dr. Albert T. W. Simeons, a Red Cross Order of Merit award-winning physician. Dr. Simeons was also credited for the advancement in research of many tropical diseases. Later, while working with malnourished pregnant women in India, Dr. Simeons discovered that they were delivering healthy babies.

After further research, he concluded that the HCG hormone (produced by women during pregnancy) helped these malnourished women despite their consuming a low amount of calories. The last piece of the puzzle came when Dr. Simeons realized that the HCG hormone was using stored fat as a source of energy.

After discovering how the HCG hormone worked, Dr. Simeons started treating obese patients, which led him to create a diet system. The result was a recommendation of HCG injections in combination with a customized, low-calorie diet. Dr. Simeons published a book in 1954 called Pounds and Inches that details the benefits of the HCG diet.

How Does it Work?

Upon treatment, human chorionic gonadotropin stimulates the hypothalamus in the brain to produce chemicals, which releases fat stores into the bloodstream to burn energy. The hormone still causes the release of fat stores even without a pregnancy, which is the important part when it comes to people interested in the HCG diet. Instead of using lean muscle for energy, you’ll be using the fat stores.

How is HCG Administered?

There are various methods in which HCG is administered, but the most effective way for the human body to absorb it is through injection. After that phase is over, your daily caloric intake will increase to normal levels. Please take note that an average daily caloric intake amount may be different from what you believe. Most patients’ caloric intakes are higher than normal, resulting in unhealthy eating habits and stored fat. After completing the HCG diet, it’s important to continue eating healthy to keep the weight off.

What Can I Eat?

Just as with any health regiment, the path to success involves staying consistent. Remember that the toughest part about dieting is maintaining it. You won’t only change your eating habits for a few months, you’ll be changing them for the rest of your life. We know that there are many questions regarding what exactly you should eat to keep the weight off, but here are some suggestions:

  • Protein: beef, chicken breast, veal, fresh white fish, lobster, crab and shrimp
  • Produce: cabbage, spinach, asparagus, chard, cucumbers, chicory, red radishes, beet greens, onions, fennels, tomatoes, celery, grapefruit, oranges, apples, strawberries, etc.
  • Starches: melba toast and grissini
  • Seasonings: salt, pepper, marjoram, vinegar, thyme, mustard powder, parsley and garlic sweet basil
